Other than the RubberWay systems for remediating Sidewalks and Treewells and building safe Playgrounds, there are many uses for the basic Poured-in-Place rubber system.
Anywhere a resilient, attractive, good traction, durable, fall injury minimizing, comfortable surface is needed, the PolyStar Rubber Multi-Purpose system will satisfy the requirements.
The Multi-Purpose system consists of ½” of recycled crumb rubber mixed with a non-toxic urethane binder and poured and troweled over a sub-base. The sub-base can be asphalt, concrete or compacted crushed rock. If a more attractive surface is required, the crumb rubber (SBR) can be replaced or topped by pure rubber EPDM granules which are available in a wide variety of colors, and can be laid in geometric patterns.
When laid over concrete or asphalt the resulting firm yet resilient surface is ideal for recreational facilities like basketball or tennis courts where it provides a cushioned surface with good traction and suitable ball bounce. “Bunny” skateboard parks can be constructed with appropriate contours and slopes for young beginners to learn to skateboard on a safer surface that is slower and softer than concrete.
The uses of PolyStar Multi-Purpose are limited only by your imagination.
For example, there are millions of square feet of ugly and unused flat roofs throughout our cities which could satisfy recreational needs in a pleasing, useful and practical way. Imagine that black tar roof transformed into a broad green lawn with umbrellas, benches, putting greens, tables, chairs and hammocks, where office workers and guests can retire for a while to relax, eat their lunches and just chill out for a while. Or it could be a more active place with a PolyStar Poured-in-Place surface encouraging people to play shuffleboard or other “shipboard” style games, maybe a large chess or checker board, a dance floor or a perimeter running track.
You could have a mixture of both turf and rubber, the only limitation is your imagination.
The installations can be porous, allowing rainwater to seep through into the existing drainage system which promotes quick drying and reduces puddling, or it can be made impervious and have its own drainage system. Both methods provide an extra layer of insulation and protection for the roof.
Heating and cooling costs are reduced by adding such a roof since there is a significant insulating quality to the systems and in hot climates, light colors will reflect the sun’s rays while in colder areas, dark colors will absorb radiant energy so warming the building. Depending on conditions, over time these savings can more than pay the costs of installation. All this for little more than the cost of laying a carpet, and where once there was an ugly, dirty old tar roof, there is now a pleasant, enjoyable and attractive recreational area. And the value of the building has increased dramatically.
Many other ideas present themselves, like Pool Surrounds, Driveways, Garage and Basement Floors, Paths and Walks, Patios and Decks. Old driveways can be given a new lease on life with a fresh surface of PolyStar Multi-Purpose which can even be carried on into a garage to form a new floor. A coating of Multi-Purpose rubber can be laid over a concrete basement floor to provide both insulation and a gentler, softer, more comfortable underlay for tiles or carpets.
Can be used anywhere a resilient, yet firm surface is desirable as long as it is laid on a firm sub-base like concrete, asphalt or compacted crushed rock.
